In this despatch from 1862, Douglas mentions the Gold Mountains of Carribou. Today, the range to which Douglas refers is likely the Monashee Mountains.1
This range runs through southeastern BC and into northern Washington State and is part of the larger Columbia Mountains.2 The modern version of the Gold Range has shrunk to include only the mountains between
the Columbia and Shuswap Rivers.3
