Geographical locations that bear the Nahwitti name appear mostly toward the northern
end of
Vancouver Island. The name Nahwitti refers to the Nahwitti First Nation, which comprise three distinct
peoples: the Tlatlasikwala, Nakumgilisala, and Yutlinuk.

Several despatches make reference to variant spellings of Nahwhitti, but one, Newitty,
is used often, especially in despatches concerning the murder of three British deserters
near
Fort Rupert.
