In 1860, while a number of different First Nations groups were camped at Victoria
for various reasons, including trade, and general curiosity, a group of Haida First
Nations fired upon the schooner royal_charlieRoyal Charlie.1 Admiral Baynes sent two boats and 100 marines from the gangesGanges to confiscate the weapons of those involved.2
