According to an enclosure to
this letter, James Skea was a shepherd at a herding station just outside of
Victoria. He found the body of another shepherd,
Peter Brown, after
Brown had been murdered, apparently
by some Cowegin Indians,
today the Cowichan or Quw’utsun peoples.
