Henry Drummond Wolff was educated at Rugby and joined the Foreign Office in 1846,
travelling to Florence, Brussels, and the Ionian Islands. In 1858 he was appointed
assistant private secretary to the Earl of Malmesbury and private secretary to
Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton. In 1878, Wolff served as commissioner for Great Britain on the International Commission
at Berlin for the reorganization of Eastern Roumelia. He was a member of Parliament
from 1874 to 1885, then the British ambassador to Madrid from 1892 to 1900. Wolff
died on 11 October 1908.
