I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No 18 of the 4th September last, 1 transmitting at the instance of the Earl of Malmesbury Copy of a note from the French Ambassador stating the CircumstancesunderManuscript image under which the French Government are desirous that Mons. Rousset should be recognized as French Consular Agent at Victoria Vancouver's Island, and also Conveying your instructions to recognize Mons. Rousset in that Capacity on his arrival in the Colony.
I shall not fail to attend to these instructions; especially as Mons. Rousset is personally known as a Gentleman of character and respectability.
