               I am directed by Secretary
Major General Peel to acquaint you, for
               the information of Secretary
Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton, that the

               to
British Columbia have not ceased to receive pay from this
Department. The Secretary of State, however, has made
arrangements for ultimately charging to the Funds provided for
the purpose by the Treasury as intimated in
Mr Merivale's

all expenses connected with this expedition which come under the
cognizance of this Office from the dates of Embarkation.
