This letter will be presented to you by Mr Joseph Trutch, a gentleman who has been for some years engaged in the Survey Dt of the U.S. Govt in Oregon and Washington Territories.
I grant this introduction at the request of Mr Trutch's father who has furnished me with testimonials to his son's character and qualificationsManuscript image of which I annex copies, and who has exhibited to me a map of the territory adjacent to B. Columbia executed by his Son in evidence of his professional skill.
I have exlained however to Mr Trutch that this introduction will confer upon his Son no claim to public employment in B. Columbia, but is intended solely as a Voucher for his position and character.
