Hamilton writes to Merivale to transmit a copy of Douglas’s letter to the Paymaster General, which bills £1,250 for “the Requisitions of the
Officer commanding the Troops” in British Columbia; Hamilton confirms that the Treasury will “pay these Bills.”
The file includes Douglas’s letter to the Paymaster General, which advises that £1,250 has been drawn from
“the Colonial Chest” to “meet the requisitions” of the “Colonel Commanding the Troops
in British Columbia.”

Sir,
I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's
Treasury to transmit to you, for the information of Sir E.B.
Lytton, the enclosed Copy of a Letter, addressed to the
Paymaster General, by the Governor of British Columbia, advising
Bills to the amount of £1.250, on account of the Requisitions
of the Officer commanding the Troops in that Colony; and I am
to acquaint you that the Paymaster General has been authorized
to accept and pay these Bills, charging the same, for the present,
