I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 33 of the 22nd of March last, relative to the management of the North Western Territories of British North America.
No apology was needed from you for the fulness with which you have entered into this question. On the contrary IManuscript imageI feel indebted to you for putting me in possession of views on your part which are so comprehensive, and evidently founded on much well-informed consideration of the subject.
Without at present expressing any opinion of my own on the several points to be dealt with, I shall be glad to be informed from what authority the Map which you annex is traced, as the boundaries of the Chartered Territory appear to be more limited than those whichManuscript imagewhich are claimed by the Hudson's Bay Company.
