I have the honor to report to you that I have granted nine months leave of absence, to proceed to England upon medical Certificate, to Mr Philip Henry Nind Stipendiary Magistrate and Assistant Gold CommissionerforManuscript image for the district of Cariboo.
2. I regret to be deprived of the valuable services of Mr Nind at this time, when so large an immigration is anticipated to the District where he is known and respected, and over which he has presided with admirable judgment and discretion, but as the Medical Certificate states that to ensure his complete recovery from an attack of paralysis oftheManuscript image the right side of the face, it is necessary he should proceed to England, I do not hesitate to grant him this short leave of absence, in the hope that change of scene and relief from harassing duties, may in themselves perhaps be sufficient to restore him to health.
3. The Certificate according to Appendix No 1 of the Book of Colonial Regulations shall be transmitted bynextManuscript image next Mail.

I have seen Mr Nind today. His opinion is that though there is an undoubtedly wonderful quantity of gold in the Cariboo & other districts of B.C. Governor Douglas' reports are exaggerated.
