Despatch from London.
Newcastle writes to
Douglas to approve of
Douglas's earlier despatch, which transmitted detailed estimates of the revenue and expenditures
for
British Columbia, and justified salary increases to “the principal Civil Officers of the Colony.”
However,
Newcastle denies the full, dual salary to
Young, who occupies the role of both Colonial Secretary and Auditor;
Young is, instead, approved for an extra £200 per year for his additional role as Auditor.
