I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to
acquaint you for the information of
Earl Granville that a Letter
has been received from
Rear Admiral The Hon. G. Hastings dated
1st Janry/69 No. 1 in which he stated that he had despatched
the "
Sparrowhawk" to
Salt Spring (Admiralty) Island, between
Esquimalt and
Nanaimo, to support the local authorities in the
maintenance of order; a murder having
been been lately committed
there and a somewhat unsatisfactory state of affairs existing
amongst the settlers and the Indians in that neighbourhood.
