I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you for the information of Earl Granville that a Letter has been received from Rear Admiral The Hon. G. Hastings dated 1st Janry/69 No. 1 in which he stated that he had despatched the "Sparrowhawk" to Salt Spring (Admiralty) Island, between Esquimalt and Nanaimo, to support the local authorities in the maintenance of order; a murder havingbeenManuscript image been lately committed there and a somewhat unsatisfactory state of affairs existing amongst the settlers and the Indians in that neighbourhood.
