Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt by me on Saturday of
your letter of the 8th inst. informing me that Her Majesty had
been pleased to appoint me Attorney General of British Columbia.
In answer to your enquiry I beg to state that I shall be
prepared to leave this country as soon as the necessary
arrangements for the journey are completed that is to say early
in the beginning of next month or sooner if required.
As the expense of transit however is very heavy I trust that I
may be excused under the circumstances of my case for soliciting
an advance on account of Salary and I should be glad if the
Rules and regulations of the Colonial office admitted of my
receiving £150 on account being the amount which I calculate it
will cost me at least to get to Victoria.

It is a question whether the Crown Agents have any Columbia
monies in their hands from which such an advance could be made.

may perhaps be considered a somewhat special case.
