Hamilton informs Hawes, at the behest of the Admiralty, that Hornby has been notified of Blanshard's appointment as Governor of Vancouver Island, and that Hornby will make for Panama in September to meet with Blanshard, in order that the two will proceed to the Island.
In reply to your Letter of the 4th Instant, I am commanded by
my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you that
Rear Admiral Hornby has been informed that Mr Richard Blanshard the recently appointed Governor of Vancouvers Island will leave
England by the September Packet, and he has been directed to
order one of Her Majesty's Ships, if possible, to be at Panama on Mr Blanshards arrival to convey himto
to Vancouvers Island, and
I am to request that you will inform Earl Grey of the same.
