Abstract
Public Offices document.
Minutes (2), Enclosures (untranscribed) (3), Other documents (1).
Taylor writes to
Elliot to respond to
Elliot’s earlier request to be supplied with copies of the “Form of Instrument” used to
to appoint magistrates to “Commissions of the Peace,” which he supplies, along with
related documents.
In the minutes,
Blackwood wonders which of
Taylor’s forwarded documents is the proper one to transmit to
Douglas.
Of the documents included in the file, the first is a draft letter, from the Colonial
Office to the Secretary of the Commission of Peace, that requests the correct form
used to appoint magistrates in England; the second is a Form of a Commission of a
Peace for Counties in England; and the third is another Form of Commission, but for
Municipal Boroughs; and the remainder are parchment copies of the Dedimus and two
oaths taken by justices of the peace.
