20th July 1854 My Lord Duke,
I have to acknowledge the receipt on the 16th Inst of your Grace's Circular Despatch of the 23rd of April last, transmitting the following instruments. vizt 1st Copy of an order of the Lords of Her Majesty's Privy Council, dated the 11th day of April last, by which permission is granted on certain conditions to export to certain places, Arms Ammunition, Military Stores &c. 2nd Copy of a Treasury Minute of the 13th April last, requiring persons exporting the Articles in question, to furnish the Lords Commissioners of Customs, with certificates of the landingandManuscript image and entry of such articles at the Ports of destination.
I have to assure your Grace that I shall not fail to carry into effect the directions of the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury by certifying according to your instructions, that any Arms, Ammunition Military & Naval Stores &c, actually imported into Vancouver's Island, have been duly entered and landed there.
