With reference to your letter of the
27th of October last,
stating that
the Duke of Newcastle had instructed the Governor
of
Vancouver's Island to make a further Report upon the
proceedings of American Citizens in the
Canal de Arro, and
recommending that no communication should be made to the
Government of the United States until that report had been
received and had
been
been considered by Her Majesty's Government, I
am directed by the
Earl of Clarendon to transmit to you, to be
laid before
the Duke of Newcastle a copy of a letter from the
Hudson's Bay Company upon this subject.
