Sir,
I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 30th Ultimo intimating Sir George Grey's approbation of the mode of providing for the support of a clergyman in Vancouver's Island proposed in Mr Colvile's letter of the 18th July, and to acquaint you that the Governor and Committee of the Hudson's Bay Company in accordance with the views therein stated, have selected the Reverend Edward Cridge to fill the office vacant by the death of the Revd J.R. Staines.
Mr Cridge is a man of high character and respectabletalentsManuscript image talents, and appears to them to be well qualified for the situation to which it is proposed to appoint him; they therefore trust that his appointment will receive the sanction of the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
As every day is now of importance, the Governor and Committee will feel much obliged by an early reply to this communication.
