Barr enquires as to when appointments to New Caledonia will be made.
The minutes answer that “very few apptments [sic] will be made directly” but it would
be fair to tell Barr that Lytton “fears he will be unable to offer him employment.”
Enclosed is a printed copy of testimonials from J.S. Helmcken, John Kennedy, James Cooper, Edward Langford, and John Tod; as well as a draft from Carnarvon to Barr informing him that he will not likely be employed.
