I have to inform you that the Queen has appointed Captain Hawkins as Chief Commissioner with a party of scientific and other Officers under him to be employed in laying down the Boundary under the Treaty of Washington between the British Possessions and the United States, and that these Officers will proceed to Vancouver's Island as soon as the necessary arrangements can be made for their departure from this Country. I have therefore to request that you will afford them every facility in your power in the execution of the duties with which they are charged.
