I am directed by the Earl of Malmesbury to transmit to you, for the
consideration of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, the
accompanying Copies of a Letter and it's inclosures from the War
Office suggesting that the land and buildings purchased for the use
of the Oregon Boundary Commission should eventually be transferred to
the Colonial Authorities at a valuation, insteadinstead of being disposed of
to private parties.

Lt. Colonel J.S. Hawkins, Commissioner, to [War Office], 13 June
1859, advising that the property, currently belonging to
the Foreign Department, should be transferred to the colonial
authorities rather than being put up for private sale.
