               I am directed by the Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for
               Trade to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 
13th instant
               stating that the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury have consented
               to advance the sum of Seven thousand pounds (£7000) required towards
               the construction of the two Lighthouses in 
Fucas Straits and the
               entrance of 
Esquimault Harbour, on condition that one half of this
               sum shall be repaid by the Colonies of 
British Columbia and
               
Vancouvers Island jointly, and requesting My Lords to cause measures
               to be taken for 
sending
sending out immediately from this Country the
               necessary Lighting Apparatus.
               
               In reply, I am to acquaint you, for the information of Secretary 
Sir
                  Edward Bulwer Lytton, that My Lords will give instructions for the
               construction of the Lanterns and Lighting Apparatus which will be
               required for these two Lighthouses with the least possible delay.
               
               To assist the Colonial Authorities in carrying out the undertaking, I
               am to enclose a Copy of a further Memorandum of 
Captain Sulivan of
               this Department, together with drawings on the subject shewing the
               dimension which will be required at the top of the Towers.
               
               My Lords believe that the 
cost
cost of the lanterns and apparatus
               including gallery rails, to be sent to this Country will not exceed
               Three thousand three hundred pounds (£3300) inclusive of freight, but
               My Lords will give more specific information on this point when the
               Tenders are received.
