With reference to your letter of the 16 Inst reporting the completion
of the Lighthouses on Vancouver's Island and the expenditure of about
£1000 over and above the sum of £7752 already sanctioned for
expenditure in the Colony on this work—I am directed by the Lords
Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you for the
information of the Duke of Newcastle that My Lords have been pleased,
under the circumstances, to authorize the Board of Trade to accept
such Bills as may be drawn for this service in excessof
of the amount
already sanctioned to the extent of £1000—the sum to be added to the
Estimate for Lighthouses abroad 1861-2 now under preparation.
