I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No.40 of the 25th June last, respecting the intended withdrawal of the United States Troops from San Juan; on this subject I beg to refer you to my despatch No. 68 of the 24th ultimo, instructing you thatManuscript image the British Detachment is to be retained on the Island whether the American force be withdrawn or not.
