I will report fully by next Mail.

Sir F. Rogers
Acke. rect and say that Mr Cardwell will take prompt measures for replacing Mr Cary?
The salary of the Attorney General is £300 a year with private practice.

Mr Blackwood
Where is the salary derived? Annual vote?
FR 15/10
The salary of the Attorney Genl like that of certain other chiefManuscript image officials is annually voted by the Legre but that vote is accompanied by the proviso usually introduced into the appropriation Act that the salary is not to be paid until the Land fund has been transferred to the Legre. I infer, therefore, that this Officer's salary, pending the desired transfer, has been paid out of the Land fund.
£300 a year is proposed by this Office for the Atty General in the Civil List Act—which we hope will shortly be passed.
ABd 17 Octr
Mr Blackwood
I would merely acknowledge. It is impossible to obtain the service of an adequate person for an uncertain £300 a year. Draft at [once] & then Mr Elliot will [see] the draft & have an opportunity of observing on it.
