Williams Creek is located just north of the community of Wells, which is roughly five
km northwest of the historic mining town of Barkerville, in south-central British Columbia.
In this 1861 report on gold in the Cariboo, Douglas notes that Thomas Brown, an American citizen, claims the honour of having discovered and taken up the first
mining claim on William's Creek.
