Romaine informs Merivale that one Officer and twenty Men, belonging to the Royal Engineers, had arrived in Esquimalt.

The minutes pass the information to the War Department.

Enclosed is Merivale to the War Office reporting the Royal Engineers’ arrival at Vancouver Island.

Sir,

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of Secretary Sir E. Bulwer Lytton, that Rear Admiral Baynes in a letter dated 29th Oct. last, reports that the party of Royal Engineers vizt one Officer and twenty Men, who were ordered to be conveyed from Panama to Vancouver's Island in one of HM Ships, had arrived at Esquimalt on that day in the United States Mail Steamer.
