Lugard responds to Moody's request that a Commissariat Officer may be sent out to British Columbia, noting that Herbert concurs with Newcastle that there is no necessity at present for sending out such an Officer, and that Gosset can continue to perform these duties.

Sir,
I have laid before the Secretary of State for War your letter of the 12th inst. and its enclosed application from Colonel Moody R.E. requesting that a Commissariat Officer may be sent out to British Columbia to undertake the charge of all matters connected with Commissariat Expenditure.

In reply, I am to request that you will inform the Duke of Newscastle that Mr Secretary Herbert concurs with His Grace in thinking that there is no necessity at present for sending out such an Officer, and that Captain Gossett [Gosset] R.E. who was appointed Treasurer of British Columbia and Commissariat Officer to the Royal Engineers may very well continue to perform these duties.
