Sir,
With reference to your despatch No 25 of the 8th of November last, I have to acquaint you that I have appointed Mr George H. Cary of Lincoln's Inn, a Gentleman who has been highly recommended to me by the Solicitor General toManuscript image be Attorney General in British Columbia.
I have informed Mr Cary that the Salary of the office will be Four hundred pounds per annum to be increased hereafter if the Colonial Revenues will allow; that he will be permitted to enjoy private practice; and that should the future Legislature of the Colony consider the permission of private practice, under the circumstances of the Colony inexpedient, Her Majesty's Government will require that someadditionManuscript image addition should be made to the present Salary.
The Warrant for Mr Cary's appointment shall be transmitted to you at a future opportunity.
