Despatch from London.
Newcastle replies to Douglas's earlier request for
instructions as to the disposal of Convicts sentenced to transportation in British Columbia,and reports that
no British Colony remains available for the reception of Offenders sentenced to Penal Servitude or Transportation in any places out of the United Kingdom, and that the only resource available for their punishment is imprisonment with hard labor in the Country where their offences are committed.

Sir,
I have had under my consideration your despatch No 39 of the
30th November last, requesting instructions as to the disposal of
Convicts sentenced to transportation in British Columbia. In reply I
have to
inform you that no British Colony remains available for the reception of
