Sir,
In obedience to the commands conveyed in your despatch
No. 27 of the 28th of July, I have the honor to forward
copies of the latest and most authentic maps of British Columbia.
Captain Holmes, Acting Surveyor General, whose letter I enclose,
will endeavour before his departure for Belize, to prepare a
general map of the Colony, which will exhibit the recent discoveriesmade
made by the armed parties of Volunteers in the pursuit of the
Chilicoten Indians. The only tolerably correct account of the
Country which was the scene of the late insurrection is the report
of Lieutenant Palmer R.E. of a journey from Victoria to Alexandria.
The distances are however generally understated,
and the trail by which we travelled runs by Nacoontloon. A
copy of Lieutenant Palmer's report, which is now out of print, was
forwarded in Sir James Douglas's despatch, No. 31 of 21st May 1863.
I have
made by the armed parties of Volunteers in the pursuit of the
Chilicoten Indians. The only tolerably correct account of the
Country which was the scene of the late insurrection is the report
of Lieutenant Palmer R.E. of a journey from Victoria to Alexandria.
