Sir,
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 24 of the 13th March forwarding a Resolution passed by the Legislative Council of British Columbia praying that some Naval protection may be afforded to the Colony.

Having referred this application to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty I enclose, herewith, a copy of the answer which their Lordships' have returned to me.
I request that you will communicate this answer to the Legislative Council as the decision of Her Majesty's Government upon the subject of their Resolution.
