With reference to my Despatch, No. 1, of the
16th July last, in
which the Officer Administering the Government of
British Columbia was
informed that the Customs Amendment Ordinance, No. 3, of
1865, would be
disallowed unless amended in accordance with the views of Her Majesty's
Government, I have the honor to transmit to
you for your consideration
the copy of a letter addressed to me on the subject of that Ordinance by
Sir James Douglas.
I have requested Governor Kennedy to inform
Sir James Douglas that
though I could not take any notice of that communication as it had not
been transmitted to me through the Governor, I would readily consider
any representation he may desire to make through the proper channel.
