Seymour encloses the attorney general’s report on enquiries made respecting property left by the late J.H.C. Baar. Cox’s minute discusses the attorney general’s report and how Baar’s heirs need to proceed following the report. The included document reports that Baar’s estate appears to have been wasted by his partner, Tesch.

My Lord Duke,
I have had the honor to receive Your Grace's despatch No. 46 of the 2nd July, directing me to make enquiries respecting property left by the late J.H.C. Baar, who was drowned nearLillooetManuscript image Lillooet in this Colony.
2. I enclose a Report from the Attorney General which furnishes all the information I am able to procure on the subject.

I suppose from the Attorney General's report that Tesch was joint proprietor with Baar & has squandered away what there was—but the report is not a satisfactory one as to the amount of information it gives, norManuscript image more so as to the result. But there is no need of interference further & the heirs of Baar must now proceed in the usual course if they think it worth their while to save anything out of what may be left. Copy to F.O.
