Romaine encloses a despatch to be transmitted to Seymour and notifies the Colonial Office that
there is no officer under Orders to proceed to British Columbia or Vancouver.Buckingham minutes that Rogers should request the Admiralty
to inform us of first opportunity.Robinson minutes that the Colonial Office wants to send
an appendix to the Cypherto British Columbia. Included documents are letters requesting the Admiralty to inform the Colonial Office when it can forward the despatch.
Romaine to Under-Secretary of State
With reference to your Letters of the 25th Inst, enclosing
a Despatch to be transmitted to the Officer Administering the
Government of British Columbia, by the first Officer of Her
Majesty's Naval Service proceeding to that Colony, I am Commanded
by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you for
the informationof
of His Grace the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos
that there is no officer under Orders to proceed to British
