Dear Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 22nd inst.
On looking up the authorities which we possess with reference to the Telegraphs in America I found that I did not really possess such information as I should like to furnish to you. I therefore caused a service message of inquiry to be telegraphed to New York, and I have asked for full information. So soon as I shall have received a reply to this message I shall do myself the pleasure of communicating to you the results. I trust that it will be in time if you obtain the information tomorrow.
