Seymour informs Buckingham that William Cox’s position was abolished and that William Cox has not yet accepted a position at the customs department in British Columbia. Seymour believes that William Cox’s position will not enable William Cox to afford paying Sophia Cox two hundred pounds a year. Cox’s minute notes that Seymour makes no mention of contacting William Cox. Buckingham minutes instructions to forward the despatch to Sophia Cox.

My Lord Duke,
I have had the honor to receive Your Grace's despatch No. 18 of
the 21st of March, forwarding an application from Mrs
W.G. Cox for herhusband

2. I observe that Mrs Cox makes this application in the
belief that her husband is in the receipt of a salary of nine
hundred pounds (£900) a year.
3. Amongst the numberless persons whose offices I have been
compelled to abolish is Mr Cox. I have done away with the
Magistracyat
at the Big Bend of the Columbia. I have offered
Mr Cox a small situation in the Customs Department which he
has not yet accepted, but very certainly it would not enable him
to settle two hundred pounds (£200) a year on his wife.
