Abstract
Despatch from London.
Buckingham requests Seymour to return the Public Seal of the late colony of Vancouver Island, in order that it [can] be defaced in the usual and prescribed form by Her Majesty in Council. Buckingham instructs Seymour to send the seal with an officer of the British Navy.

Sir,
In answer to your Despatch No. 163 of the 19th of December last, I have to request that you will have the goodness to return to this department the Public Seal of the late colony of Vancouver Island, in order that it be defaced in the usual and prescribed form by Her Majesty in Council.

It will be desirable that the Seal should be returned by hand through some Officer of Her Majesty's Navy or through some other secure channel otherwise it might be lost and wrongfully used.
