Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatches of
the numbers and dates noted in the Margin
No. 102—18 Aug: 68
No. 105—22 Aug: "
enclosing Returns exhibiting the financial condition of British
Columbia.
I have also received your despatch No. 72 ofthe the 28 July enclosing
the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for 1868, and an Ordinance No.
12, 1 May 1868 passed by the Legislative Council and entitled "An
Ordinance to appropriate the sum of $358,923.5 out of the general
revenue of the Colony for the contingent service of the year 1868."
I have to express my approval of those Estimates and to convey to
you Her Majesty's gracious confirmation andallowance allowance of the Ordinance
No. 12 of 1868 making provision for expenditure which they involve.
I transmit to you for your guidance and for adoption so far as it
is applicable to British Columbia a printed copy of a despatch addressed
to the Governor of the Straits Settlements laying down the rules which
are to be followed in that Colony in the preparation ofEstimates Estimates and
financial Returns for the future.
