I have the honor to forward an authenticated and two plain copies of a Bill passed by the Legislative Council during the late Session, Entitled: An Ordinance respecting the Companies Ordinance 1866.

By Ordinance No 5 of 1866 the Imperial Act (The Companies Act 1862) was extended to B. Columbia.
It is now proposed to extend this Ordinance to Vancouver Island.
The Attorney General objects, because the whole subject requires careful consideration & treatment. It may well be that this is true, & yet there seems no good reason why in the meantime the law of the whole Colony should not be assimilated to that which has been in force in B. Columbia since 1866. It is not stated that the Ordinance of 1866 has worked badly. I should instruct the Govr that Ld Granville sees no reason why the Govr should not assent to the Bill.
