I have the honor to transmit to Your Lordship copy of a letter
addressed to Governor Seymour by Mr W.A.G. Young, lateActing

2. The Passage money of Mr Young, his wife and family to
England was paid by the Colony. I enclose copy of the
correspondence on the subject of Mr Young's application.

It appears to me that Mr Young may fairly be considered as entitled to some compensation for the loss of his original office namely Col: Secy at Vancouvers Island, to which he was appd in 1859 & which was abolished at the Union in 1866—tho' it would only be a months Salary for each years Service. But small as that sum wd be it is more than the Colony would pay. The
Treasury should be recommended to
sanction the Passage Allowance given to Mr Young.

I infer that he is not prepared to accept the Police Magistracy
at B. Guiana which was offered to him.
Mr Meade should have this & with it 4918 Straits
Settlement
with reference to the appt of Asst Col. Sec there. The Salary
is $3600 (£765) to be increased when the Clerkship of the
Council becomes vacant to $4200 (£892).
