Sir,
I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of Earl Granville, that a Letter has been received from Vice Adml Hastings, dated 5th Janry No. 4 in which he States that Captain Lyons (H.M.S. "Charybdis") had Visited the Camp at San Juan Island, and found everything Connected therewith in a Very Satisfactory Condition.

The Admiral further reports that the "Charybdis," "Sparrowhawk" & "Boxer" were at Esquimalt, and that the latter Vessel had been employed in removing the Light Vessel off the mouth of the Frazer River, which Vessel had parted one of her Cables during Severe heavy Gales recently experienced in the locality; the "Boxer" subsequently visited New Westminster.
