Stansfeld to Rogers (Permanent Under-Secretary)
Treasury Chambers
30th April 1870
Sir,
The Lords Commissoners of Her Majesty's Treasury have had before them Mr Herbert's letter of 12th inst., and the despatch enclosed therein, relative to the Vancouver's Island Crown Fund.
Their Lordships direct me to state, for the information of Earl Granville, that they concur in Mr Musgrave's suggestion that the Crown Fund be placed under the control of the Legislature, on theconditionManuscript image condition of their passing a Supplementary Civil List securing £1000 per annum to be accounted for by the Governor, but expended by him alone as Imperial interests may require.
I am to add that, as to the amount drawn by Mr Seymour from the Crown Fund, My Lords await a further communication from the Colonial Office after the receipt of the Accounts of that Fund since the Union.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
James Stansfeld

Mr Herbert
I would call particular attention to what I have said as to unexpended balance of the Crown Fund—because I am not sure that this is intended.
