Sir,
With reference to previous correspondence relative to a claim by this Department of £675.2.4 for Stores supplied for the service of the Colonial Government of British Columbia, and to the letter from the Colonial Office of the 8th June last, I am directed by Mr Secretary Cardwell to request that you will inform me whether the Colony is now prepared to settle the claim in question, or any portion thereof.

Answer that provision has been made for this in the Estimates for 1871 & that as those Estimates were sanctioned by a despatch dated the 15th ulto. Mr Musgrave will no doubt shortly remit the amount due for payment to the War Office.
