I am directed by the Earl of Malmesbury to transmit to you the accompanying Copy of a note from the French Ambassador at this Court, requesting that he may be furnished with information as to the fate of a French Subject named Jean Baptiste Massenot, whoManuscript imagewho is stated to have arrived at Victoria, Vancouver's Island, in June last; and I am to request that you will move Secretary Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton to take the necessary steps to procure the information required by the Duc de Malakoff.
