Newcastle informs Douglas that the rifles supplied by the Secretary of State for War for the use of the Volunteers in Vancouver Island had been shipped aboard Speedy on 1 November 1861.

Sir,
With reference to my despatch No. 60 of the 14th of June last, I have the honor to acquaint you that the Rifles &c supplied by the Secretary of War for the use of the Volunteers in Vancouver Island were shipped on board the "Speedy" on the 1st Instant for conveyance to the Colony.
