With reference to my despatch No. 60 of the
14th of June last, I
have the pleasure to inform you that the Secretary of State for War has
on my recommendation authorized the issue of a supply of Rifles for the
use of the Volunteers of
Vancouver Island of a description superior to the Brunswick Rifles recently sent out, and that 500
stand of Rifles
Pattern /53 with a proper
supply supply of ammunition have accordingly been presented to the Colony.
As no ship of War is likely to leave England for
Vancouver Island for several months, application has been made to the Transport Office
to provide conveyance for these stores.
