Despatch from London.
Newcastle informs Douglas that the Admiralty has decided to provide surplus 68 pr. Guns from HMS Bacchante and HMS Topaze for the defence of Victoria or Esquimalt, neither of which had guns as powerful at the time.

Sir,
I have the honor to acquaint you that the Lord Commissioners of the Admiralty have apprized me that, as it appears that there are no guns at Victoria or Esquimalt, arrangements have been made for landing two 68 pr. Guns which may be spared from H.M.S. "Bacchante" and "Topaze."
